Has WWE ever incorporated the double/triple main event style matches in previous events?

WWE has decided to go along with a 'triple main event' scheme for Night of Champions 2023. As the name suggests, the premium live event will have three main events which will be featured at different times during the show. The aim is to hold the attention of the audience via the high-octane showdowns.

This isn't the first time that the WWE has set double or triple main events. It has used such a tactic multiple times in the past but mostly for their Show of Shows. WrestleMania 8, which occurred in 1992, had two main events in which 'Macho Man' Randy Savage won the WWF Championship from Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan defeated Sid Justice.

At No Mercy 2008, Chris Jericho defeated Shawn Michaels in a ladder match to retain the World Heavyweight Title while Triple H retained his WWE Title against Jeff Hardy. A most recent example of a double main event is Backlash 2023, where Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes was overshadowed by the San Juan Street Fight between Bad Bunny and Damian Priest.

Speaking of the rare triple main events, WrestleMania consisted of three solid blockbusters from 2010-13, with the exception being the 28th edition because it was solely headlined by The Rock and John Cena. The next year, Cena defeated The Brahma Bull to become the WWE Champion, The Undertaker defeated CM Punk, and Triple H crushed Brock Lesnar in a No Holds Barred match.

SummerSlam 2003 also had a set of main events. Kane defeated Rob Van Dam in the first while WWE Champion Kurt Angle shockingly made Brock Lesnar tap out. In the end, World Heavyweight Champion Triple H retained his title in an Elimination Chamber match against Chris Jericho, Goldberg, Kevin Nash, Randy Orton, and Shawn Michaels.

What are the expected triple main events for WWE Night of Champions 2023?

Roman Reigns will complete 1000 days as Universal Champion at Night of Champions. He is looking to make the day more monumental by capturing the Undisputed Tag Team Championship alongside Solo Sikoa. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are ready for the challenge.

The inaugural World Heavyweight Champion will also be decided this Saturday. Seth Rollins and AJ Styles are expected to put on a stellar main event match, having done so multiple times in house shows.

Lastly, Cody Rhodes versus Brock Lesnar is a highly anticipated matchup. The American Nightmare got his arm broken in the storyline and will have to overcome huge odds once again to complete his "undeniable to undisputed" story.
